Description of Play

This play is a time-honoured and classic comedy. Mortimer Brewster, a drama critic, must deal with his family of insane homicidal maniacs, and local police, as he fulfills his engagement to the woman he loves. His family includes two spinster aunts who have taken to murdering lonely men by poisoning them; a brother who believes he is Theodore Roosevelt; and a murderous brother who has received plastic surgery performed by an alcoholic accomplice, Dr. Einstein, to conceal his identity.

Cast requirements

Abby Brewster (50-70) A darling lady who poisons elderly men.
Martha Brewster (50-70) Sister to Abby, a sweet woman who poisons elderly men.
Elaine Harper (20s) An attractive girl and Mortimer's fiancée, surprisingly wise in the ways of the world for her age.
MEN (actors may be cast in more than one role)
Mortimer Brewster (25-40) Nephew of Abby and Martha, drama critic, engaged to Elaine, a good-hearted cynic.
Teddy Brewster (40s) Nephew of Abby and Martha, thinks that he is Theodore Roosevelt.
Officer O'Hara (20-50) A police officer, a would-be playwright who pesters Mortimer to read his play.
Jonathan Brewster (30-50) Nephew of Abby and Martha, a murdering psychopath with no scruples. Multiple plastic surgeries to disguise himself - a bit oversensitive to his "new" appearance.
Dr. Einstein (40-60) A plastic surgeon and an alcoholic.
The Rev. Dr. Harper (45-60) Minister and father of Elaine. A bit pompous and protective, very ministerial in his manner.
Officer Brophy (30-50) A Brooklyn cop with the usual charm of a police officer.
Lieutenant Rooney (40-60) A tough and dominating police officer
Mr. Gibbs (50-70) A man who wishes to rent a room from the Brewster sisters
Mr. Witherspoon (30-50) The superintendent of Happy Dale Sanitarium
